Grammy award winning singer Alannah Myles commented on their Myspace page: “without any vocal embellishments, your music is rash, songwriting strong & fresh and beautifully sung”
Independent reviewer MGC, of Chicago, Illinois (myheadhurts.blogspot.com) quotes
“Melissa Barton is the best female indie folk vocalist you have never heard of before.”
And the praise doesn’t end there.
Vancouver’s Melissa and Andrew Barton, are not only siblings, they are a song-writing
force to be reckoned with.
With a sound that is accessible and never pretentious, “The Heartfelt Apologies are able to create a wide range of musical sounds and to give it an old school feel”. – Ryan Fletcher, CJSF Radio.
Melissa Barton has been writing music and singing since the tender age of 6. She was a member of many choirs and musical theatre troupes during her childhood and recorded her first solo album at age 15.
Melissa’s songs range from blues, to rock, to folk, to choral. She has had her songs performed by bands and choirs, most notably the award winning acclaimed Campbell River Children’s Choir.
Melissa’s singing experience includes singing for countless venues. She was known in her home town as the “O Canada” girl, and was asked to sing at many local and prestigious events.
Melissa, who was classically trained by Soprano Barbara Livingston, has also won many awards at competitions for her contralto solos.
Andrew Barton is not only a versatile guitarist and bassist, but he is a vital member of a songwriting team, that with his sister produces “touching love songs”, brazen rock pieces, and new age power folk.
Since the formation of The Heartfelt Apologies in 2004, Andrew and Melissa have been steadily writing and performing.
They have performed at countless venues around Vancouver and Vancouver Island. Including: The Backstage Lounge (Granville Island) and Café Montmartre.
Live, Melissa Barton is a musical force “commanding respect like Aretha Franklin” – Ke Zine.
Ryan Fletcher of SJSF radio noted “Melissa is among the finest of vocalists I've ever heard”.
While Andrew continues to play an important role in the super charged songwriting that makes The Heartfelt Apologies so likeable, Melissa has taken to performing on her own.
She has relocated to Montreal Quebec, where she has been performing solo.
With her “[Joan] Baez-y tremolo” and “moves fit for a vaudeville act” (Ke Zine) she is as entertaining is she is talented.
The Heartfelt Apologies, no pretence, just good music.
